Cut your pieces

You will cut a pattern out of cardboard paper that measures 13×13″. You also need 3×3 notches cut out of each corner.

Also cut your squares that color coordinate into 3×3 inches. For your lining, you simply need a piece that matches your piece of paper. Don’t cut out your notches yet on your lining until you add your interfacing.

You will also want a side piece cutting 2 of those measures 3.5″ x 12″.

Sew your Pieces

Start by sewing your squares together across and then each row. We did 1 row of 5 and then the next row had 4. When you finish your rows, square up yours pieces and then attach your side strips. Use a 1/4″ seam allowance on all your pieces

Iron your seams all in 1 direction after sewing your rows. This will help it when you lay it on your interfacing

Interfacing

You want to add your interfacing to both your squares and inner lining. You may need to square up your bag once again because fabric tends to shift as interfacing is applied.

When you finish that, use your cardboard paper pattern and place on your pieces and cut out your notches.

Attach your Zipper

Lay your lining right side up. Open your zipper and lay it down so that the edge of your zipper is at the top of your lining. Apply a little fabric glue or glue stick to hold things in place

Lay your outside lining right side down on the edge of the zipper and pin everything.

Attach your lining to your zipper using fabric glue or glue stick Flip your outside lining Pin your pieces and then sew your zipper on that side

Iron your seams open being careful not to burn yourself.

Boxed Corner

Create a boxed corner by gathering the open edges and sewing it. Trim close to the seam after you sew

Finish your Quilted Makeup Bag

Sew along the top and bottom edges leaving a 2-3 inch opening to turn

You want to pull through your lining and close up the lining. Finish off your bag by sewing on the edge of your zipper on the right side of the quilted makeup bag using your zipper foot.
