15 Easy Free Placemat Patterns For Your Dining Table
I think one of the easiest sewing projects is Place mats and table runners, and they are an easy way to change your dining table decor without spending a ton of money.
Today we are sharing our favorite Free placemat patterns.

Patterns for Placemats
Just a reminder, you might not love the colors of the platemat photos but remember you can change out any color with your favorites.
You can also use fat quarters packages or coordinating fabrics for coordinating colors if you have trouble matching colors like I do.
Most of these projects can be done in an afternoon and if you are newer to sewing and quilting, simply take your time. If you get stuck ask in a Facebook group and show where you are stuck.

DIY Placemats
Pieced Hexagon Placemat
How cute is this hexagon placemat? This place mat is finished with a quilting machine that makes these designs but you could easily change that with different stitches on your sewing machine or investing in having someone locally quilt the pattern you want.
There are a ton of options to finish this placemat off.
Easy Placemats for a Round Table
This colorful placemat is such a creative oval placemat. Usually, for a round table you see a round placemat, but this quilted placemat is different, and we love it for round tables.
These would be great for handmade gifts for someone with round tables. Again use a variety of colors for a festive occasion.
Christmas Placemat
Christmas is such a fun time to decorate your table with gorgeous placemats. If this is your first quilting project, you will want to give yourself some extra time to complete it and probably not make it as gifts.
I love cutting out the pieces with rotary cutters as it makes it easy to cut several layers of cotton fabric at one time along with the backing fabric.
This is a super cute pattern and you could use it to make mini quilts as Christmas gifts. These pinwheel star blocks are a great way to bring ho ho ho to your table setting. This would be a great project to use charm squares with coordinating Christmas material.
Winterberry Placemat
These are stunning Christmas placemats along with free table runner patterns. The different colors scream the holidays and this easy placemat uses a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
I love using my magnetic seam guide to make sure my final stitch is straight all the way around. If you are new to quilting, this is so simple with just a few blocks sewn together making your pattern.

These log cabin placemats are a fun way to spruce up your dinner table. Remember that you can use your favorite fabric pieces.
A great way to do that would be to find coordinating jelly rolls that match your decor or the holiday you are wanting to make them for and use those colors.
The good news is that is a versatile project and so much fun to make. These finished projects are beautiful. Also consider making reversible placemats by using the same log cabin pattern but using different pieces of fabric.

We love this reversible placemat from Hello Sewing. You can use bright colors in this easy project or make one side for fall placemats and one side for Christmas placemats for your holiday table.

Fall Diamonds Table Runner and Placemats
This pattern is for a table runner, and I noticed she has a broken link for the free placemat patterns. Looking at it, you create the border like you are making a table runner and then add solid coordinating fabric to the right of the border.
A standard placemat size is 12x14" or 12"x18" so simply make the runner and then add the other piece using a straight seam.
Flying Geese Christmas Placemat or Mini Table Runner
These placemats are called the flying geese placemat. This placemat tutorial could be your next project.
This is a quilt pattern that is simple to put together with various fabric collections.
Small projects like this are an easy way to make placemats for any eason.
Simply coordinate colors that match your decor or use cotton quilting fabric that coordinates with the season.

To kick off the process, sew your two fabric pieces together. Following this, layer cotton batting onto the assembly and conclude by stitching all three layers in unison.

This placemat is called dash into spring and it is super cute. It would also be super cute with these colors for Easter but remember just by changing the colors, you change the look.

If you have leftover fabric laying around, this would be the project to use them on. It would also be easier to cut your pieces using a rotary cutter.
You could easily make this into a reversible placemat and have 2 different looks.
I think these would be adorable with fall or Christmas fabrics or even for a placemat for Santa's cookie plate.

This placemat is super creative with a place to tuck in your silverware.
How cute would this be for summer fabrics for a summer bbq or maybe July 4th party. So many possible holidays and seasons for this free pattern.
Hand Quilted Placemats
These hand quilted place mats are sewn from scraps. Take your favorite fabric designer or dig through your stash and create these beautiful place mats.
The only limit is your imagination. These are the perfect place mat for a beginner sewer or quilter or if you have a ton of scraps you have been holding on to.
