Why Should you Make Unpaper Towels
Unpaper towels, also known as reusable paper towels or cloth towels, are an eco-friendly alternative to traditional disposable paper towels. Here are some reasons why people may choose to buy unpaper towels:
- Environmental sustainability: These towels help reduce waste and deforestation associated with disposable paper towels. They are typically made from materials like organic cotton, bamboo, or microfiber that can be washed and reused multiple times, significantly reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills.
- Cost-effective: While the initial investment in these towels may be higher than buying a pack of disposable paper towels, in the long run, reusable towels can save you money. Instead of constantly purchasing new paper towel rolls, you can reuse these towels for an extended period before needing to replace them.
- Absorbency and durability: Your towels are often made from highly absorbent materials, such as bamboo or microfiber, which can effectively clean up spills and messes. They are designed to be durable and long-lasting, able to withstand repeated use and washing without falling apart.
- Versatility: They come in various sizes and designs, making them versatile for different purposes. They can be used for cleaning countertops, wiping surfaces, drying dishes, or even as napkins during meals. Some designs include snaps or buttons to attach multiple towels together, creating a convenient roll for easy dispensing.
- Health benefits: Unlike some disposable paper towels, these towels are typically free from harmful chemicals, dyes, and fragrances. This makes them a safer option for individuals with sensitive skin or allergies.
- Aesthetically pleasing: They often come in attractive patterns and colors, allowing you to add a touch of style to your kitchen or dining area. They can be a more visually appealing option compared to traditional paper towels, which are typically plain white.
It’s important to note that these towels may not be suitable for all situations, such as cleaning up hazardous materials or certain hygiene practices.
However, for everyday household tasks and reducing waste, your towels offer a sustainable and practical choice.

Unpaper Towels Directions
To begin, smooth out your cotton fabric that matches your microfiber towels by ironing it. Cut both the fabric and microfiber towel into squares measuring 6.5″ x 6.5″.
Ensure that the wrong sides of the fabric and towel are facing each other as you cut them.
Second, you want to sew around all 4 corners with a 1/2″ seam allowance, leaving a 2″ space open. As always, don’t forget to backstitch when you begin and end to reinforce your seams.
If you are new to sewing, this helps reinforce your stitches and keeps your towels from coming apart after multiple uses.
Third, you want to trip your corners close to your seams without cutting through your stitching. This helps when you turn your pieces.
Fourth, go ahead and turn your pieces. I always use my bone folder to poke out the corners and create a clean, crisp corner.
Fifth, you want to turn in your opening and, if needed, iron the seams in to help you sew around. I also like using a sewing clip or pin to hold that spot in place.
Finally, sew around each edge using a 1/4″ seam allowance making sure to backstitch when you begin and end.
Quilting options:
You can add decorative stitches to your towels or simply use scrap fabrics to create your 6.5×6.5″ outside lining. It’s a perfect way to use up fabric scraps or make them fancier especially if giving as a gift.
These unpaper towels are a great way to lower your cost of buying paper towels and help the environment. This easy sewing project is perfect no matter your skill level.
